Internet Essentials

Basically just links to various great stuff I have found on the internet. Also a way to make some of my references less obscure.

Updates: 2014/2/04 - Added ALILBTDII to Comics and feel bad for taking this long to get it on here

2013/11/2 - Added Save the Date to Games

Comics

Dinosaur Comic - Dinosaurs talk about everything from stomping on things to literary techniques. Basically the starting point for my journey into many of the best parts of the internet.

MS Paint Adventure - Probably the most epic and all encompassing stories ever told. I recommend starting with Problem Sleuth.

Nedroid - A comic about friends. Simple, sweet, and satisfying.

Dresden Codak - Science fiction comic, featuring cyborgs and really great art.

A Lesson Is Learned But The Damage Is Irreversible - Possibly the greatest web comic of all time, if not the greatest artistic creation of all time. The topics are cerebral and the art is fantastic.

Blogs

Myths Retold - Mythology written in modern internet vocabulary. Educational and hilarious.

Philosophy Bro - Philosophy written in modern internet vocabulary.Thought provoking and hilarious (end pattern).

B^F - A page by page review of a Back to the Future novelization. Written by the same dude who writes Dinosaur Comics.

SbtB Quote of the Day - Saved by the Bell episode reviews. No longer updating, but still great.

Badass of the Week - A collection of articles about various badasses, both historical and fictional.

Podcasts

Titanium Physicists - Theoretical physics explained for non-physicists. Entertaining just for the Bee analogies, but you also get to learn about science.

Weekly Weinersmith - General science podcast. Current science news in everything from parasitology to economics.

Partially Examined Life - Philosophy podcast. A group of guys who dropped out of philosophy grad school read and discuss philosophy. Episode generally focus on famous works from famous philosophers with links to the readings on the site, which is neat.

Web Shows

Red vs Blue - Old-school Halo machinima. I only watched the first two seasons, but only because they switched to Halo 2, and me and Halo 2 have issues.

Unforgotten Realms - D&D parody show. Starts a bit slow but gets better.

Yacht Rock - Background stories to smooth rock hits from the late 70's and early 80's. Who doesn't love Kenny Loggins references?

Crash Course! - A YouTube series about World History, Biology, Literature, Ecology, and US History. Another way to learn stuff, and have fun.

Cracked AfterHours - A show about four friends having discussions. These are like my ideal nerdy conversations.

Vi Hart - Math, and Doodles, and Amazing Stuff. Basically all the fun and visual math ideas made into cool videos.

Short Stories

The Last Question - A short story by Isaac Asimov (yes that Isaac Asimov). It's about the most important question in the history of the universe.

Divided by Infinity - By Robert Wilson about the things that are possible due to infinite alternate universes. Pretty mind blowing stuff.

Games

Barkley, Shut Up & Jam: Gaiden, Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa - Charles Barkley and pals must save B-ball in the Post-Cyberpocalypes. The funniest game ever, but also kind of fun in a J-RPG kind of way.

Save the Date - A game, but also a clever commentary on video games and story telling in general. It's like philosophy in an electronic choose your path adventure form. The mechanics are pretty unique and a game that rewards you with deep thinking is also fairly original.

Random

Werner Herzog Reads Curios George - Curios George overintellectualized to the extreme. Not actually Werner Herzog.

The Petals Fall Twice - Be warned that this is extremely crude and kind of dumb, but I like it anyway. The word choice is excellent, and it just demands to be quoted.

70 Minute Phantom Menace Review - Scalding review of Star Wars Episode One. It gets pretty bizarre but it is also intelligent in its critiques. Done by Red Letter Media who are my most trusted source of movie reviews.

Star Wars Christmas Special - Holy crap, Chewbacca has a family and they don't use subtitles. Official Star Wars (albeit suppressed after they realized how lame it was), and official crazyness.

Half-Life: Full Life Consequences - A video that was made for some pretty spectacular Half-Life fan fiction. A delightful mixture of bad English and profound statements.

Handy Websites

Dictionary.com - This is were I go for all my definition and synonym needs. My favorite thing is how the word pronunciations are written in a way that I can actually read.

Periodic Table - The coolest periodic table ever. Has everything you should ever need to know about an element in the table, from melting points to isotopes to the year of discovery.
